So I built a home made sled!!
An 18" car tyre donated by a friend, 14ft of chain, hardboard base, and the handles from an old worn resistance band and BINGO! the hobo sled is born, and man has it kicked my ass!
Weighing in at a mere 20kgs on its own it can easily be loaded with kettlebells, the first time out I had no idea of how tough dragging 60kg accross a park in 100 degree heat could be! suffice it to say I did not make it accross the park and was humbled after 60 seconds or so, my good friend and training Allie Brett made a valiant attempt and did decidedly better than I, but he also had his eyes opened to just how tough this mode of conditioning is, but sick masochists that we are we returned the following week with renewed vigour (and a more structured and realistic approach in terms of programing) and had a killer day my arms are still aching as I type this! my neck still stiff from the round of Thai grappling (thanks Brett!) a couple of guest trainees also had their proverbial sled cherries popped the same day!
and a damn fun day it was too, looking forward to my third encounter NEVER SAY DIE!
Brett soldiers on!
Brett attempts to pull my head off!
I got an idea lets do squats before we dragg the sled (TWATS!)
So as you can see from the smiling happy child like faces in these photos sledding is great fun! for all the family, so get down to the old folks home and get granny and grandpa out and in the fresh air for the day because i feel like a bloody GRANDPA right now!
